All Things Considered had a fascinating story today about a group of WWII conscientious objectors who were assigned to work at state hospital Philadelphia in lieu of military service. While working in the hospitals they witnessed disturbing excesses of abuse against the patients. When the war was coming to an end they decided they would expose the violent neglect. Charlie Lord snuck in an Agfa camera and secretly recorded the conditions inside the hospital. The powerful photos were later published in Life Magazine shocking a country that had just ended a long war against tyranny. © Charlie Lord
