Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!
Last night was surreal. 400 people packed into a little piece of elegance in a warehouse in DUMBO. A cellist plucking maudlin stings as a series of presenters, photographs and winners flashed before the crowd. And then Martin Parr announcing the nominees for the Photography Book award.

"And the winner is...Amy Stein."

Strange and wonderful things happening at the New York Photo Festival.

Congratulations, Amy. I've been reading your blog for a while now, and love your work. Can't wait to buy the book.

A funny story, that was probably taking place at the same time you were about to hear the good news: I was walking back from school with my wife yesterday, and a man and woman in tuxedo and wedding dress were all alone in a church parking lot. The guy started walking toward us, and since we were on foot, I was hoping he wasn't going to ask for me to jump his car or something. He ended up asking for a lighter, so I asked what was up, and he said he and his new bride were stranded, waiting for someone to come get their car started. Everybody else was at the reception, and they were utterly alone in the parking lot.

They would have been perfect for the stranded series. Seriously. Perfect. Since I'm not a photographer, maybe I'll write it all out in a real story.

How exciting! Well done. I've been enjoying and learning from your blog for some time and it's gradually become clear from your voice what a pleasant, generous, creative photographer you are. So it couldn't have been awarded to a nicer candidate!
